Hey everyone,
A quick update for you all regarding the weather and our plans for the weekend.
Hurricane Beryl (currently a category 5 hurricane) is heading through the Caribbean now and is set to make landfall in the Yucatan Peninsula on Thursday night. It’s predicted to be either a category 1 hurricane or a tropical storm by the time that it’s over Merida on Friday morning. Because of this, we’re moving our ceremony to Saturday at 6PM and canceling the pool party. We’ll be having a breakfast buffet on Sunday morning for those who want to swing by on their way to the airport or just want to hang out.
According to our planners, people in Merida are preparing for the storm by stocking up on provisions. As a result of this, stores may be understocked or even closed on Friday so we suggest that if you’re arriving on Wednesday or Thursday and staying at an airbnb, that you should stock up on the basics so that you’re not starving on Friday when the storm hits. Additionally, the planners suggest asking your airbnb hosts for candles, flashlights, and other provisions. During the storm, stay away from windows as there is a risk of injury during high winds.
For people staying at hotels, check to see what their emergency plan is for Friday. If you’re staying at Japoneza retreat, the restaurant will be open and they’ve got a contingency plan in place if the weather gets too bad.
As for Diane and I, our friend Rocky says: “if we can get to Merida, we’re going to be there” and we say “same.” Please exercise an appropriate degree of caution when deciding if you’ll still be joining us on Saturday.
For more on the weather, we suggest following the Fox 26 tropical weather YouTube playlist. They’ve got really good animations, informative graphics, and unreasonably charismatic weather people.
We’ll keep you updated as we get more info it and of course, we’ll be updating the website. For now, we’ll see you in Merida or see you when we see you ✌🏿
All our best and gratitude,
Richard + Diane
